Borghild Hegna, age 93, resident of Cooperstown, ND passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the Cooperstown Medical Center – Nursing Home in Cooperstown.

Borghild was born July 11, 1915 in Pilot Mound Township near Aneta, ND to Erland and Maria (Randen) Odegaard. She grew up and attended country school near Aneta. Borghild was baptized and confirmed at the Norway Lutheran Church.

Borghild worked in Fargo, ND as a housekeeper for a few years before returning to Aneta. On October 31, 1942 she married Adler Hegna in the Norway church parsonage. After their marriage they made their home in rural Aneta where they farmed for many years. Adler passed away in 1981. Borghild continued to live on the farm until 2001 when she moved into Cooperstown.

Borghild was a member of the Ottawa Lutheran Church and the Pilot Mound Harmony Homemakers. She enjoyed cooking, baking and serving coffee. Borghild was well known for her cookies.

Borghild will be missed and remembered by her children, Carole (Lowell) Skjolden of Aneta, ND, Eileen (Curt) Stokkeland of Cooperstown, ND and Alden Hegna of Aneta, ND; 4 grandchildren, Brent Skjolden, Bryan Skjolden, Chris (Jessica) Skjolden and Joel (Amy) Stokkeland, 2 great grandchildren, Evan & Emily Stokkeland; sister Mavis (Phil) Hanson of Grand Forks, ND, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Borghild was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 brothers, Theodore and Reuben.

Funeral services for Borghild will be Monday, September 22, 2008 at 10:30 AM in the Ottawa Lutheran Church, Aneta, ND. Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, 2008 from 4 PM to 7 PM with a family service at 5 PM in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Ottawa Church Cemetery.
