Selma
A. Nash, age 92, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly of
Petersburg
and Lawton,
ND,
died Wednesday, May
20, 2009 at Altru
Hospital
in Grand
Forks, ND.
Selma
Anna Tveito was born June
9, 1916 near Dahlen,
ND,
the daughter of Ole and Margit (Sorteberg) Tveito. She
was raised on her parents' farm in Nash
Township,
near Petersburg.
Selma
was a graduate of Petersburg
High
School, and then taught
at rural schools in the area. She also worked as a housekeeper
in New York City,
Los Angeles,
and Minneapolis.
Selma
was working in Brocket, ND, when she met Everett L.
Nash. They were married June
24, 1945 at Petersburg.
They lived and farmed together near Lawton.
Everett
died August 18, 1970.
Selma
worked as the cook at the Good Samaritan Center and
lived on the farm until 1985, when she moved to Petersburg.
In her sixties, Selma
began rosemalling
and later taught rosemalling classes. She served as
the secretary of the Hallinglag, co-chaired the stevne
in Devils Lake
and was a member
of the Sons of Norway. Selma
was very active in
the Lawton Lutheran
Church,
the Petersburg Lutheran
Church,
their WELCA groups, and also taught Sunday School in
Lawton.
She moved in 2006 to the Good Samaritan Center in Lakota.
Selma
will be greatly missed by her son, Darrel (Kathy) Nash
of Lawton, ND; her daughter, Lonnie (Dave) Larson of
Buffalo, ND; 6 grandchildren, Valorie Nash, Scott (Kim)
Nash, John Nash, Adam (Jennifer) Nash, Ember (Aaron)
Disrud, and Kameri Larson; 4 great grandchildren, Brandon
Myhre, Nathan Myhre, Mara Nash, and Emma Nash; and her
brother, Olaf Tveito of Lakota, ND.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her
brother, Thor Tveito; and her sister, Myrtle Anderson.
Selma
's Funeral Service
will be held at the Petersburg
Lutheran
Church,
Petersburg,
ND,
on Tuesday, May 26,
2009 at 2:00
p.m. Officiating will
be the Reverend Gary Knabe. The organist will be Marlys
Hoverson and the soloist will be Bradley Schmidt. Interment
will be in the Petersburg
Cemetery.
The casketbearers will be Scott Nash, John Nash, Adam
Nash, Aaron Disrud, Chad Carlson, and Scott Schara.
Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of
Lakota, ND, on Monday,
May 25, 2009 beginning
at 5:00 p.m.
with a Prayer Service at 7:00
p.m. Visitation will
continue at the church on Tuesday, from 1:00
p.m. until the time
of service.
