Roland Matejcek, age 90, resident of rural Lawton, ND, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center in Lakota, ND.

Roland was born at 10:00 a.m. on March 21, 1920 in Sauter Township of Walsh County, ND, on the farm of his parents, Emil and Mary (Jonas) Matejcek. He was raised on the farm and attended the Sauter Township School . He started farming at a young age with his father. Roland married Georgia Adeline Kratochvil on June 26, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lankin. They farmed the family farmstead all of their life together. He loved the farm and the farming lifestyle. Roland was a people person; he loved to visit and talk about the good old days, especially over coffee and sweets. He always showed great hospitality when people would come to visit at the farm. He had a gentle, kind charm that made people feel loved by him. He had a twinkle in his eye and a grace about him. Roland and Georgia were always together. They were an example of a good marriage and good parents. Roland loved polka dancing with Georgia, and anyone else that would dance with him. They helped form the Tri County Twirlers square dance club. Roland was a past member of the St. Catherine Lomice Church Council and was on the committee that built the parish hall. He is a member of the Elks Club, the Eagles Club, the Lawton Senior Citizens Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight, and also served as a Director of the Brocket Equity Elevator.

Roland will be greatly missed by his wife, Georgia Matejcek of Lawton; a daughter, Darlene (John) Vasichek of Grand Forks; a son, David (Bernadette) Matejcek of Lakota; 5 grandchildren, Jason (Kathy) Vasichek, Shelby (girlfriend, Kari) Vasichek, David (Shayana) Vasichek, Jackie Matejcek, and Michael Matejcek; a great-grandson, Tucker Jace Vasichek; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Matejcek; and 2 sisters, Agnes Bina and Marvina Trenda.

The Funeral Mass for Roland will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church of Lakota, ND, on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery, Lomice, rural Lawton, ND. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Wednesday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass
