Landsem, age 70, resident of Edmore, ND, died Friday,
June 3, 2011 at his home in Edmore.
Phillip
Claire Landsem was born April 3, 1941 at Devils Lake,
ND, the son of Lawrence and Evelyn (Rice) Landsem. He
was baptized in Minnesota and confirmed in St. Hans
Lutheran Church, rural Edmore. He was raised on the
family farm and attended Highland Center School. Phillip
graduated from Edmore High School in 1959. He then went
to Fargo, attending Hansen Auto School, then worked
at a gas station there. From there he went to the west
coast seeking employment. Phillip enlisted in the U.S.
Navy in 1962, attending boot camp in San Diego, CA.
He served with the Sea-Bees from 1962 to 1964 and was
stationed in Okinawa and Thailand. After his discharge,
he worked with heavy road equipment in several states.
Phillip moved back to Edmore in 1995 where he worked
doing home repairs and painting. He was an avid Minnesota
Twins fan. Some of his many hobbies were mowing lawns,
fishing, guns, and squirrel hunting. He thoroughly enjoyed
spending time with his grandchildren and social hour
with the local residents.
Phillip
will be deeply missed by his daughter, Karla “Goobin
1” McLaughlin & her husband Chad of Park River,
ND; 4 grandchildren, Haille and Evan McLaughlin of Park
River, Nikita Huset-McLaughlin of St. Thomas, ND, and
Hope Axvig of Kindred, ND; his mother, Evelyn Landsem
of Edmore; a sister, Sherrie Walford & her husband
Larry of Devils Lake, ND; his nephews, Matt & David
Landsem of Edmore; his honorary daughter, Karla “Goobin
2” Martinson of Edmore; and his special friend, Fiona
Woodward of Grand Forks, ND.
He
was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Landsem;
and his brother, Lowell Landsem.
The
Funeral Service for Phillip will be held at Concordia
Lutheran Church, Edmore, on Wednesday, June 8, 2011
at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Don Reynolds.
Interment will be at St. Hans Cemetery, rural Edmore.
Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota,
on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue
at the church on Wednesday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
until the time of service.
