Funeral services for Marlene Venekamp, age 77, of Mobridge and formerly of Lakota, ND will be at 3 PM Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Aaker Funeral Home in Lakota, ND. Burial will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Marlene passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge and Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota are in charge of arrangements.

Marlene Lucille Venekamp was born on January 9, 1933 in Lakota, ND to William and Violet (Johnson) Wimer. She attended and graduated from Lakota High School . Following school she married Lawrence Ole Olson in Lakota. They made their home in Rapid City, SD. While living there she worked at the Parkway Restaurant for many years. She married Willis Venekamp in Florida. They made their home in Rapid City before moving to Pierre, SD. Following Willis passing away Marlene moved to Mobridge, SD to be closer to her daughter, Judy, in the mid 1980's. While in Mobridge, Marlene worked at the Wheel Restaurant, Dakota Country Restaurant and the Mobridge Hospital before retiring.

She enjoyed reading and doing crafts. She also loved her cats and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith (Loren) Kulm of Akaska, SD; grandson, Steven (Carol) Mead of Watertown, SD; great grandchildren, Jacob and Bianca Mead; brother, Roy (Vivian) Wimer of North Dakota; sister-in-law, Alice Wimer of Lakota, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis; sisters, Esther Olson and Muriel Wimer; and brothers, Clarence Wimer and Elmer Wimer.

Casketbearers will be Rodney Olson, Cory Olson, Laramie Olson, Steve Mead, Jacob Mead and Richard Wimer.

Honorary Bearers will be Carol Mead, Bianca Mead and all her nieces and nephews.
