Marie Geraldine Olson, age 78, resident of Lakota, ND, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND.

Marie Geraldine Asunma was born September 23, 1931 on her parent's farm in Pelto Township of Nelson County, ND, the daughter of William and Mary (Muhonen) Asunma. She was raised and educated at Pelto, Cleveland, and Lakota, graduating from Lakota High School in 1951. After graduation she worked as a waitress in Lakota and Devils Lake. Marie married Lloyd E. Olson of rural Brocket, ND, on June 29, 1952. They lived on the farm where she was born, and farmed in the Brocket-Whitman area. They were married for 26 years until the time of Lloyd's sudden, tragic death on August 2, 1978. She continued to live on the family farm until 1994 when she moved into the house of her parents in Lakota. Marie enjoyed reading, embroidery, doing crossword puzzles, and following the activities of her grandsons. Her grandkids meant the world to her. Marie is a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. In 2009, Marie moved into the Odd Fellows Basic Care Home in Devils Lake, and remained there until the time of her death.

Marie is survived by three daughters, Debra (Dana) Grow of Grand Forks, ND, Kerry (Kevin) Rysavy of Lakota, ND, and Kelly (Richard) Jerombeck of Grand Forks, ND; grandsons, Terry and Travis Rysavy, and Nathan Jerombeck; a sister, Linda (Eugene) Roerick of Frazee, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her son, Lloyd Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Perry Bunde; parents, Bill and Mary Asunma; brothers, George Kyllonen, Joseph Kyllonen, and Ben Asunma; and an aunt, Ruth Varnson.

Marie's Funeral Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.   Officiating will be the Reverend Timothy Stout.  Interment will be in the spring at the Enterprise Cemetery, rural Brocket. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m until the time of service.
