Margaret
E. Powers, age 89, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great
Grandmother died Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital
with her family by her side.
Margaret Eleanor Bina was born April 25,
1918 in Sauter Township of Walsh County, ND, the daughter
of Thomas and Elizabeth (Salaba) Bina. She was raised on her
parents farm and attended the Sauter School. Margaret married
Lloyd J. Powers on June 17, 1937 at Sts. Peter & Paul
Catholic Church, Bechyne, rural Lankin, ND. They farmed in
the Edmore-Lawton area before moving to Lakota in 1956. Margie
and Lloyd enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Margaret worked
at the Johnson Store in Lakota and had flourishing flower
and vegetable gardens. Margie always put family
and faith in God foremost in her life. These
values which she taught her children are greatly appreciated.
Margaret and Lloyd lived in Sun City, AZ, from 1982 to 1994.
Since then she has lived near her daughter and son-in-law
in Jamestown, ND. Her cat, Cupid, was a wonderful companion
the last 11 years.
Margaret
is survived by her son, Richard (Mary Ann) Powers of Spicer,
MN; daughters, Ginny (James) LaBarre of Eau Claire, WI,
Carolyn (Wayne) Harper of Princeton, MN, and Bette (Robert)
Johnson of Jamestown, ND. She is further survived by seven
grandchildren, Stephen (Kelli) Powers, Robyn Powers, Patti
(Tarek) Ismail, Michael (Susan) Harper, Stephanie (Jason)
Lewis, Kalyn (Brandon) Maulding, and Diana Johnson; and
by nine great grandchildren and one she was hoping to see
born in February. She is also survived by her brother, George
Bina of Lakota, ND.
Margaret
was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, in 1995 and
infant daughter, Arletta, in 1939.
The
Funeral Mass for Margaret will be held at St. Mary Catholic
Church of Lakota, ND, on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 10:30
a.m. Celebrating the Mass will be Very Rev. Fr. Al Bitz.
The soloist will be Theresa McMillan and the pianist will
be Joann Herman. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Steve Powers, Michael Harper, Brandon
Maulding, Tarek Ismail, Nicholas Powers, and Tom Hardy.
Honorary Bearers will be Fred Forde, Jim LaBarre, Wayne
Harper, Robert Johnson, Jason Lewis, and Bob Bina. Visitation
will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday,
January 11, 2008 beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service
at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church on Saturday,
from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
