Hilman J. Moen

Hilman J. Moen, age 77, resident of Michigan, ND, passed away surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Hilman Jerome Moen was born August 1, 1930 in Grand Forks County, the son of Olaf and Alma (Knudson) Moen. He attended school in Dahlen and graduated from Michigan High School in 1949. He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1953. Hilman was united in marriage to Helen Loiland on November 24, 1956 at East Walle Lutheran Church, rural Thompson, ND. The couple resided in Grand Forks and rural Michigan, where they farmed for 41 years.

Hilman served as a 4-H leader and on the board of the Whitman Oil Company, Nelson County Farmers Union, Sarnia Church Council, and East Sarnia Cemetery.

Hilman will be deeply missed by his wife, Helen; 5 children, Douglas (Bonnie) Moen of Michigan, ND, Sandra Horner of Grand Forks, ND, Gary Moen of Warroad, MN, Bruce (Danielle) Moen of Lenox, IA, and Susan (Rick) Elgin of Lakota, ND. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three brothers, Richard (Terry) Moen of Park Rapids, MN, Wayne (Susy) Moen of Steele, ND, and Wallace (Roberta) Moen of Tieton, WA, a brother-in-law, Norris (Marcie) Loiland of Grand Forks, ND, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.

Hilman's Funeral Service will be held at Sarnia United Lutheran Church of Whitman, ND, on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the East Sarnia Cemetery, rural Whitman. Military Honors will be conducted by the W.L. Cowper American Legion Post # 238 of Michigan. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday, February 15, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the East Sarnia Cemetery Fund.
