Glen
O. Skytland, age 90, resident of Edmore, ND passed away
Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Osnabrock Good Samaritan
Center in Osnabrock, ND.
Glen
was born December 9, 1920 at Fairdale, ND, the son of
Nels and Tina (Sorenson) Skytland. He attended Newland
township school. He was confirmed in Edmore and was
a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church. He worked
on the family farm before moving into Edmore and went
to work for Mr.& Mrs. Ed Melland where he lived
for nine years. He entered the United States Army in
1943 and returned to Edmore after a medical discharge.
On December 22, 1944 he started a marriage that lasted
66 years with Genevieve “Genny” Severson. Glen started
trucking with his father-in-law Kay Severson before
going to work for Donald Boehmer Chevrolet in Edmore.
He partnered with Don Blecka and formed D & G Auto
which he owned and operated until his retirement in
1995. Glen was very caring towards his family and friends.
He was active in his community, serving as assistant
fire chief, fire chief, ambulance driver, EMS and mayor.
He helped build the ice skating rink, baseball field
and the first curling club. In his younger years he
enjoyed stock car racing, fishing and playing the guitar.
He was inducted into the River Cities Speedway Hall
of Fame in 2002. He was a life member of the North Dakota
Firemen's Association.
Glen
is survived by his wife, Genevieve “Genny” of Edmore,
ND; sons, Bob (Mary) of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Dale
(Doreen) of Edmore, ND; grandchildren, Nick (Krista),
Jesse, Kayla (Blaine), and Cody (Katie); great grandchildren,
Madison, Michael, Cade and Asher; half sister, Lillian
Pesek of Great Falls, MT; half brother, Dennis Dammen
of Power, MT; along with several nieces and nephews.
Glen
was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, sister
Nellie Jenning, and half brother Stanley Dammen.
Funeral
services for Glen will be Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at
11:00 AM in Concordia Lutheran Church Edmore, ND. Officiating
will be the Reverend Don Reynolds. The organist will
be John Martinson with special music by the High Plains
Trio. Visitation will be Monday, January 3, 2011 at
the Aaker Funeral Home from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM
prayer service. Interment will be in the spring at the
Edmore Cemetery . The casketbearers will be Nick Skytland,
Jesse Skytland, Cody Skytland, Blaine Laaveg, Vernie
Nyland, Edval Helle, Allen Eide, and Myron Dammen. The
honorary bearers will include all of the Edmore fire
and ambulance personnel and friends
