Genevieve
"Genny" Skytland, age 85, resident of Edmore,
ND, died Monday, January 09, 2012 at the Osnabrock Good
Samaritan Center in Osnabrock, ND.
Genevieve
Virginia Severson was born August 7, 1926 at Edmore,
ND, the daughter of Kindred and Myrtle (Strand) Severson.
She was raised and attended school in Edmore. She was
confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church , where she was
an active member of the ELCW and served as a Sunday
School teacher. Genevieve married Glen O. Skytland on
December 22, 1944 in Edmore. She worked at the Strand
Café, Hoime Grocery Store, Gouldings Drug Store,
Equity Cream Station, and was the bookkeeper at D &
G Auto, all in Edmore. She was also a substitute mail
carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Edmore. Genny
and Glen lived all of their life together in Edmore.
Together they enjoyed curling and auto racing for many
years. In her later years, Genny loved to play Bingo
and was an avid reader. Her health required her to move
to the Osnabrock Good Samaritan Center in June of 2010.
Glen died December 29, 2010.
Genny
is survived by 2 sons, Bob (Mary) of Wisconsin Rapids,
WI, and Dale (Doreen) of Edmore, ND; 4 grandchildren,
Nick (Krista), Jesse, Kayla (Blaine), and Cody (Katie);
6 great-grandchildren, Madison, Michael, Cade, Paxton,
Asher, and Jaxon; 3 sisters, Kathleen Haugen of Fair
Oaks, CA, Shary Eckes of Grand Forks, ND, and Joy Severson
of Grand Forks, ND; 1 brother, Keith "Pete"
Severson of Pierre, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and
her sister, JoAnn Riskie.
The
Funeral Service for Genny will be held at Concordia
Lutheran Church of Edmore on Friday, January 13, 2012
at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Don Reynolds.
The organist will be John Martinson. Interment will
be in the Edmore Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers
will be Nick Skytland, Jesse Skytland, Cody Skytland,
Blaine Laaveg, Vernie Nyland, and Edval Helle. The honorary
bearers will be all of Genny's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of
Lakota on Thursday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer
Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the
church on Friday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time
of service.
