Gaylyn
Ivan Kjorsvik passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008,
from his battle with multiple myeloma with primary
amyloidosis, on his family farm in rural Michigan,
North Dakota.
Gaylyn
was born April 19, 1947 at McVille, ND, the son of
Goodwin and Gena (Olson) Kjorsvik. He attended Melrose
# 4 and graduated from Michigan High School in 1965.
Gaylyn was a member of the armed services. He served
in the United States Army from October of 1966 through
September of 1968, during which time he served in
Vietnam. After his tenure with the Army he was employed
in road and highline construction. Gaylyn met and
married Sherrie Gruber while working in Minnesota.
They were married June 26, 1971 in Pierz, Minnesota.
They lived in Grand Forks and Fargo, North Dakota
before returning to take over the family farm in 1974.
In addition to farming Gaylyn also operated Kjorsvik
Backhoe Service for many years. He served on the Melvin
Township Board as Supervisor and Clerk/Treasurer.
Gaylyn enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and playing
pinochle with his many friends.
Gaylyn
will be deeply missed by his wife, Sherrie; two sons,
Kevin (Michele) Kjorsvik of St. Louis Park, MN and
Daniel Kjorsvik of St. Louis Park, MN; one daughter,
Melissa (Scott) Moen of Michigan, ND; two sisters,
LoRaine (Gary) Glomstad of Grand Rapids, MN and Cheryl
(Bill) Coghlan of Tempe, AZ; his mother-in-law, Valery
Gruber of Pierz, MN; one sister-in-law, Dionne (Louis)
Kopka of Blaine, MN; two brothers-in-law, Ed (Diane)
Gruber of Ramsey, MN and Gayle (Gwen) Gruber of Wyoming,
MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, Goodwin and
Gena Kjorsvik.
Gaylyn's Funeral Service will be
held at the Michigan Lutheran Church of Michigan, ND,
on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will
be the Reverend Sue Mackey. The organist will be Paula
Narum and the soloist will be Sharon Young. Interment
will be in the Melrose Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural
Michigan. Casketbearers will be Allan Forde, Bob Vasichek,
Dale Mayer, Randy Gunderson, Orin Slettebak, Leroy Sparks,
Ed Gruber, and Gayle Gruber. Visitation will be held
at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Thursday,
April 3, 2008 beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service
at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church
on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers memorials are
preferred to the Melrose Church Cemetery or the Disabled
American Veterans in Fargo, ND.
