Garland
T. Legacie, age 54, resident of rural Edmore , ND ,
died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at his home near Edmore.
Garland
Trent Legacie was born July 1, 1954 at Devils Lake ,
ND , the son of David and Margaret (Shorey) Legacie.
He was raised on his parent's farm near Lawton and attended
school there. He then attended school in Edmore, graduating
high school in 1972. Garland then attended Lake Region
Junior College , where he learned auto and diesel mechanics.
He then substituted as a teacher in those departments
for a time. He began the sport of curling in 1968. His
2 favorite things in life were curling and farming.
He lived & farmed on the home farm all of his life.
Garland married Jan Fredrickson on July 18, 1986 in
Devils Lake . Garland was a member of the Farmers Union
Board at Edmore. He served for a time as the president
there and also at the Brocket Equity Elevator. He was
a member of the Lawton Township Board, Lawton Cemetery
, Lawton Fire Department, Edmore Curling Club, Langdon
Curling Club, Lake Region Curling Club, Edmore Community
Club, and he was a Head Icemaker for the U.S. Curling
Association. Garland loved to hunt with his daughter,
Jesa, his brother, Jim, and other relatives. His greatest
attribute was his sense of humor, which all of his friends
and family will miss. He enjoyed going out to eat every
Saturday with his family at Larry's Bar in Lawton .
He also enjoyed watching and criticizing his wife and
daughter's curling techniques. In 2001 Garland and Jan
won the Mixed National Curling Championship. He very
much enjoyed making ice with the many other ice makers,
and he enjoyed all the other activities associated with
U.S.C.A. events.
Garland
will be deeply missed by his wife, Jan Legacie of Edmore;
3 daughters, Jade Hanson of Denver, CO, Brooke Legacie
of Grand Forks, ND, and Jesa Legacie of Edmore; his
brother, Jim Legacie of Edmore, his sister, Sharon (Steven)
Meissner of Arizona; and several aunts, uncles, and
cousins.
He
was preceded in death by his parents.
Garland
's Funeral Service will be held at the Edmore High School
on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will
be in the Lawton Cemetery , Lawton , ND . Visitation
will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on
Friday, May 29, 2009 beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a Prayer
Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the
school on Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of
service.
In
lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
