Evelyn
M. Skjervem, age 89, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly
of Michigan and Whitman, ND, died Monday, December 20,
2010 at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center in Lakota,
ND.
Evelyn
Margaret Sandford was born April 29, 1921 at Whitman
, ND , the daughter of John T. and Augusta (Nowek) Sandford.
She was raised and attended school there, graduating
from Whitman High School. She then attended Mayville
State Teachers College and received her Standard Degree.
Evelyn married Raymond G. Skjervem on June 6, 1942 at
Petersburg. They lived at St. Joseph, MO for a few years
before returning to Whitman. Evelyn taught elementary
school and attended summer sessions at Mayville where
she received her Bachelor Degree in Education. In 1980
Evelyn and Raymond moved to Michigan. Evelyn taught
school for 37 years, teaching at Perth Township School
#2, Brocket, and Michigan. She retired from teaching
in 1986. Raymond died January 19, 1990. Evelyn was a
65 year member of the Nelson County Homemakers, a member
of the Sarnia United Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid
of Whitman. One of her favorite hobbies was making ceramics.
She moved to the Good Samaritan Center in October of
2003
Evelyn
will be missed by her son, Milton (Sharon) Skjervem
of Michigan, ND; a grandson, Marcus Skjervem of Minneapolis,
MN; 3 step grandchildren, Michael (Laurie) Fosse of
Minneapolis, MN, Michelle (Tim) Anderson of Michigan,
ND, and Mary Jane (Kevin) Hoherz of Stanley, ND; 8 great
grandchildren; her sister, Viola Lillehaugen of Brocket,
ND; and several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her husband and a brother,
Edmund Sandford.
Evelyn's
Funeral Service will be held at Sarnia United Lutheran
Church of Whitman, ND, on Thursday, December 23, 2010
at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Sue Mackey.
The organist will be Paula Narum and the soloist will
be Marcus Skjervem. Interment will be in the spring
at the West Forest Cemetery . The casketbearers will
be Marcus Skjervem, Michael Fosse, Brady Anderson, Kevin
Hoherz, Tim Anderson, and Larry Zacha. The honorary
bearers will include all of Evelyn's grandchildren and
great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the
Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Wednesday, December
22, 2010 beginning at 2:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service
at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church
on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service
