In Loving Memory...

Edith M. Carlson

Edith M. Carlson, age 91, resident of Edmore, ND , has passed on to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She died on August 31, 2009 at the Edmore Memorial Rest Home.

Edith was born July 16, 1918, the daughter of Axel A. and Anna C. ( Anderson ) Carlson. She was born on a farm about five and a half miles south of Edmore. She attended Triumph School until the fall of 1930 when the family moved to a small farm north of the Edmore School. Edith graduated from high school in 1936 as valedictorian. She worked for Bell Telephone for a couple years and then took a job with the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk on February 25, 1939. She became Postmaster on February 21, 1971. On February 21, 1989, the U.S. Postal Service honored Edith for her dedicated years of service and presented her with a plaque from the Post Office Department for 50 years of service. After 54 years with the Postal Service, Edith retired on December 3, 1993 . For almost 20 years Edith delivered the Grand Forks Herald to the west side patrons of Edmore. During the summer the delivery was made via bicycle, and during the winter, foot service was the mode of travel. On November 13, 1994 Edith was one of eight carriers from 500 honored as “Carrier of the Year” by the Herald. Most will remember Edith for her kindness and generosity and there probably wasn't any animal around the town of Edmore that didn't receive some type of treat from her daily. She was a member of many clubs and organizations in the community and a life long member of the United Methodist Church of Edmore and was an active member of the Edmore Senior Citizen Center where she kept an office in the back.

Edith will be truly missed by all her friends and family.
