Dorthea R. Myhre, age 95, resident of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Lawton, ND, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at her home in Mesa.

Dorthea Rose Coons was born on May 22, 1915 in Bemidji, MN, the daughter of Thomas and Edith (Taunt) Coons. She moved to North Dakota after the death of her father. Dorthea was a graduate of Lawton High School. She married Ulysses “Shorty” Myhre on October 18, 1934 in Devils Lake, ND. They adopted a baby in 1942 and named her Linda Lou. Shorty and Dot wintered in Arizona after farming for 55 years east of Lawton. Ulysses died April 20, 1990. Dorthea moved to Arizona year round in 2005.

Dorthea will be deeply missed by her daughter, Linda Powers of Mesa, AZ; two grandchildren, Lana Powers of Phoenix, AZ and Greg Powers of Grand Forks, ND; one great granddaughter, Stephanie Powers of Grand Forks, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Ruby Laurion of Wisconsin, Eva Ware of Nevada, and Lillian Falls of Coos Bay, OR.

The Funeral Service for Dorthea will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Don Reynolds and the organist will be Margaret Swanson. Interment will be in the Spring at the Edmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
