Doreen M. Olson, age 76, resident of Englewood, CO, formerly of Lakota, ND, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at Swedish Hospital in Englewood, CO after a short illness.

Doreen Mavis Purdy was born on Christmas day of 1933 in Lakota, the daughter of Leslie and Mabel (Clayton) Purdy. She graduated from Lakota High School in 1951. She enjoyed every classmate at the time and still kept in contact with them until her death. Doreen was a very loving person to people. Her door was always open to anyone that had a problem and helped counsel them until they got better. Doreen married her childhood sweetheart Milton Olson in Lakota on June 3, 1952 and had 4 children. Doreen worked in Lakota as a switchboard operator and for years worked at Sears and retired from JC Penney's. She also worked for 31 ½ years at TAS Answering Service and managed an apartment complex, where she was presently living.

Doreen is survived by 1 son, Mark of Freemont, NE; 2 daughters, Cindy (Steve) of Detroit Lakes, MN and Cathy (Dale) of Ada, OK; 1 son-in-law, Ray of Lincoln, NE; 4 special people, Sherrie, Crow, JoJo, and Herman; 9 grandchildren, Brandt (Callie), Mandy, Lindsie (Brent), Lance, Angie (Kyle), Justin (Twyla), Shawn (Vannassa), Shyla (Josh), and Josee; and 8 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie & Mabel Purdy; husband, Milton Olson; daughter, Connie Olson Krumme; and son-in-law, Billy Hurley.

Doreen's Funeral Service will be held at the United Church of Christ, Lakota, ND, on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Sue Mackey. The organist will be Ellen Pederson. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery . Serving as casketbearers will be Doreen's grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
