Alan W. Kyllonen, age 71, resident of rural Brocket, ND, died Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Triumph Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Alan Willard Kyllonen was born August 9, 1937 at Lakota, ND, the son of Erick and Sadie (Karna) Kyllonen. He attended school at Pelto, ND. Alan married Shirley Ryba on October 10, 1958. Alan lived on the family farm for all of his 71 years, where he farmed until 1984. For many years, while still farming, he also drove semi cross-country and worked in road construction. For 10 years Alan would go south to do custom harvesting, and for the last few years he worked for local farmers.

Alan will be deeply missed by his wife of 50 years, Shirley of Brocket; 3 sons, Alan B. (Rita) of Lakota, Bryan (Beth) of Wichita, KS, and Lonnie (Anna) of West Fargo, ND; 1 daughter, Renae (James) Flood of San Antonio, TX; his brother, Herb (Lois) Kyllonen of Gate City, VA; his sister, Lois (Sam) Klover of Salina, KS; 6 grandchildren, Brenna & Heather Kyllonen, Christien & Alyssa Kyllonen, Brandon & Jorden Flood; 4 step-grandchildren, Nikkita (Matt) Erickson, Kassandra (Matt) Invik, Kris & Brandon Ehlers; 1 great granddaughter, Madison; 2 step-great grandchildren, Bradly & Jasmyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Lennie Scott Kyllonen; and his sister, Shirley Nesevonger.

Alan's Funeral Service will be held at United Lutheran Church of Brocket, ND, on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Joel Westby. The soloist will be Sharon Olson. Interment will be in the spring at the Enterprise Cemetery, rural Brocket. Casketbearers will be Bob Jamsa, Steve Eidsness, Roger Elvick, Lyle Sundeen, Ben Varnson, and Joe Vasichek. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
